How I edit my bookstagram photos: A Full Guide

Hello my beautiful friends! Today, I'll show you how I edit my bookstagram photos so you can create the same effect.

I mainly use two apps to create that effect. I will show you how to recreate it step by step below:

1. Take a photo using your phone: I always use my phone for bookstagram photos. It's much easier to take them, edit and upload them and it doesn't take a huge amount of time.

2. Use VSCO app: This is the main app I use to edit my photos. It has so many great edits and features and let's you download the photo with the highest quality.

3. Upload your photos in VSCO: you can add multiple photos at once ( Great for photo shoots).

4. Edit the photo filter: First choose the A5 filter (at 12) to your photo to make it more colorful.

5. Edit the photo settings: My photos are edited using the below settings.

5.1. Bonus perk, You can copy and paste the pre-used settings to all of your other photos.

6. Save the photo using the actual size for full quality.

7. If the photo needs additional editing, I use Instagram's edit tools to do the final tweaks before uploading.

8. Use the Warmth tool to make the photo have that beautiful warm glow if it doesn't feel right after VSCO's edits (I usually don't go over + 20 as I only need a natural pop of color).

9. And voilà!

Book Review: Illuminae by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman

Book name: Illuminae

Authors: Jay Kristoff & Amie Kaufman

Number of Pages: 599 pages

Goodreads Rating: 4.32/5 stars

My Rating: 5/5 stars

The Illuminae Files

My Review:

First of all, this is a book that I believed was way overhyped. From all the booktubers to the bookstagrammers, you can’t go anywhere without seeing this book being hyped up. After reading Nevernight by Jay Kristoff last August, I started to believe that Mr. Kristoff has a great writing style, but I was still skeptical about spending my money on this book (Note: I also wasn’t a huge fan of Sci-Fi).

One day in January, my cousin and I were in a bookstore looking for unique books and I told her about this one. She immediately bought both Illuminae and Gemina because she LOVED the format of these books. She then kept them at my house so I can read them. Little did I know that I’ll be a huge Illuminae fan later.

This book is written in different styles and from multiple perspectives. You have the perspective of Kady, Ezra, and and an intelligence defense system called AIDAN. It is a fast paced, cliff-hanger filled, highly addicting story about a chase between two space fleets where one of them is trying to get to safety while a dangerous disease spreads on board one of the ships  (but will they make it?).

“You have me. Until every last star in the galaxy dies.

You have me.”
― Amie Kaufman, Illuminae

I enjoyed reading this book immensely since it was written in a unique format including hacked emails, document, video files, and schematics. The amount of time it took for the authors must have been A LOT! Because the way the story is structured just blows away your mind. And, I found out that they used real people’s names while writing this series. How cool is that?

A sample of the book’s uniqueness

In the end, this book (and Gemina) has gotten me though a really tough time in my life when I read them in February. I still think they deserve a lot of love because they are great, quick reads which are beautifully written (and structured). After reading this book, I am now encouraged to read more of Amie’s books. And I am glad to say that I became a huge Sci-Fi fan.

Great job Amie and Jay.
Here is my favorite Aidan quote:

“Am I not merciful?” – JK & AK

And now I will leave you with a synopsis of Illuminae.

synopsis from Goodreads: “This morning, Kady thought breaking up with Ezra was the hardest thing she’d have to do. This afternoon, her planet was invaded.
The year is 2575, and two rival megacorporations are at war over a planet that’s little more than an ice-covered speck at the edge of the universe. Too bad nobody thought to warn the people living on it. With enemy fire raining down on them, Kady and Ezra—who are barely even talking to each other—are forced to fight their way onto an evacuating fleet, with an enemy warship in hot pursuit.
But their problems are just getting started. A deadly plague has broken out and is mutating, with terrifying results; the fleet’s AI, which should be protecting them, may actually be their enemy; and nobody in charge will say what’s really going on. As Kady hacks into a tangled web of data to find the truth, it’s clear only one person can help her bring it all to light: the ex-boyfriend she swore she’d never speak to again.
BRIEFING NOTE: Told through a fascinating dossier of hacked documents—including emails, schematics, military files, IMs, medical reports, interviews, and more—Illuminae is the first book in a heart-stopping, high-octane trilogy about lives interrupted, the price of truth, and the courage of everyday heroes.”

My May 2017 Haul & Wrapup

Hey guys,
I am back with my May book haul and wrap up. This has been a great month where I read more books than I bought (yay for tackling my TBR).

Let’s start with the haul. I got three books and some bookish goodies. Here is a list of what I got:

  • King’s Cage by Victoria Aveyard
  • The Hate You Give by Angie Thomas
  • Always and Forever, Lara Jean by Jenny Han
  • Bookish bookmarks by Bookmark’d Tattoos including: The dark mark, Gryffindor house tattoo, two currently reading tattoo sets, Am I not Merciful and bookstagram watercolor tattoos.

Next is my May wrap up. I read a total of 6 books in May (which I am very proud of). Two of these books are in Arabic. These books are:

  • Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor – 5/5 stars
  • The Assassin’s Blade by Sarah J. Maas – 5/5 stars
  • It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover – 5/5 stars
  • The Hating Game by Sally Thorne – 5/5 stars
  • ليدبروا – مشاري البغلي -stars 4/5
  • سيدة القصور – علي الجارم -stars 3/5

I am so happy to see that I have read this many amazing books. Two of these are New Adult. I loved Sally Thorne’s writing as it is very intruiging and hilarious. I kept laughing out loud every time I have the book in my hands.

I was also very happy to have been introduced to Laini Taylor’s writing. I have a newfound appreciation for whimsical writing.

April 2017 / Birthday Haul

Hello my awesome friends!
It is time for my April / birthday haul. April has been extremely good to me. I went to Qatar on my birthday and had lots of fun there (and bought books of course). This haul consists of books, candles, Fairyloot subscription box, stickers, and bookmarks. I will tag all shops/pages where I purchased my stuff from (sharing is caring y’all).

I will post all the stuff I got for my birthday below:

The Books:

The books

First of all, we will start with the books I got. I got 17 books this month. One of these books was a gift for my birthday, and I received one in my Fairyloot.

The books I bought / received for my birthday:

These books are from book depository. I have saved up to get all of the below books which I will be listing below:

The last book was a present for my birthday. It’s called Success from setbacks by Gael Lindenfield.

Fairy loot book:

I received this beauty in my March Fairyloot box. I loved the fact that it is SIGNED by Laini Taylor. I am currently a few pages in and loving her writing.

Books I bought in Qatar:

I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to go into WH Smiths in Qatar International Airport. Which is why I got the exit two books.

  • The Ballroom by Anna Hope
  • I’m Travelling Alone by Samuel Bjork

Books I bought in Bahrain:

I got these on the last day of April because I couldn’t find what I was looking for in the mall and wanted to cheer myself up. (Hahaha this just reminded me of Jesse the reader’s 50 book buying excuses video ^_^ * p.s. If you haven’t seen it yet, you should). So I chose both The Assassin’s Blade and Heir of Fire by S. J. Maas because I just frinished the first book in the series and wanted to continue it.

The Candles:

The second part I saved up for was the Candles I got from Happy Piranha. I got the mix three candles deal (which is cheaper!) and decided I wanted these candles:

  • Amortentia Love Potion candle: it smells like rose musk and raspberry but the raspberry smell is the stronger scent .. yummy!
  • Lunar lights candle: This smells like a mixture of strawberries and chocolate. I love the deep red color of this candle which is perfect for bookstagram.
  • The Skylope candle: This is a Zelda inspired candle that smells of freshly cut grass and jasmine. This is my favorite out of all three. It smells divinely fresh. ❤

The Bookmarks:

I got these beautiful bookmarks from ribonita chocolat Etsy shop. She has beautiful and unique designs which I wanted to get since I found her on bookstagram. The designs I got are (from left to right):

The next bookmarks are custom made by my cousin for my birthday “no she doesn’t have a shop :(“.. I separated them in three sections:

1. Birthday bookmarks

  • Happy birthday Marwa (roses)
  • Marwa is the most beautiful girl in the world (love love love this!! Great reminder when I feel bad)
  • Marwa is the best (H*** Yeah!)
  • Happy birthday Marwa (cakes)

2. Quotes about cousins:

  • Cousins are the perfect best friends
  • This bookmark belongs to my favorite cousin
  • Cousins? Nah we’re best friends

3. Bookish quotes:

  • “Books are a uniquely portable magic” ~ Stephen King
  • “The world belongs to those who read” ~ Rick Holland
  • “A book is a dream you hold in your hand” ~ Neil Gaiman
  • “A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies” ~ George R.R. Martin

The Bujo Stickers:

These are the BEST stickers!! No joke! I got a few for me and my colleagues from Paperkumaco. The ones I got for myself are below:

And I got the paperkumaco logo and bonus sticker set ❤

And as a bonus for reading my blog post until here, here is a look at the cakes I received for my birthday:

My colleagues tried to surprise me with this yellow cake before my birthday. I knew it was happening but loved the gesture.

My mom got me this chocolate stand (the white part is my name in Arabic) how sweet?? I love her ❤

Yummy chocolate ice cream cake from my cousin
My sister and cousins got me this unique birthday cake made up from doughnuts and cronuts

April 2017 Wrap-up

Hey guys!

April has been good to me this year and I was able to finish reading 4 books this month! Although I am still struggling with my Goodreads reading challenge this month, yet I feel like I have made a bit of progress this month.
The four books I read are **drum roll**:

  • The One by Kiera Cass: 5/5 stars
  • The Martian by Andy Weir: 5/5 explosive stars!!!
  • Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Mass: 4/5 stars
  • Monstress by Marjorie Liu and Sana Takeda: 4/5 stars

April Wrap-up

At the start of April, I continued reading the selection trilogy and was happy by the way the books ended. Then I started reading The Martian by Andy Weir while traveling and I have to say that this was the best book I have read this month!

I have also enjoyed reading Throne of Glass and Monstress. I applaud Sana Takeda for the beautiful drawings! The story was beautiful too and can’t wait for the next volume to come out this year.
How many books did you read this month? Did you enjoy reading them?
